WELCOME TO LEITH

A small town in North Dakota has been watched by media recently after Craig Cobb, a famous white supremacist, attempted a Neo-Nazi take over. The rural town called Leith has a population of 24 people and became Cobb’s target. Cobb bought up properties and invited likeminded people to join him. The filmmakers Michael Beach Nichols and Christopher K. Walker created a documentary, filmed from late 2013 to early 2014 and is now being show in the IFC Centre in New York. They created a stylish and scary almost genre film like documentary that used visual and musical cues from Western and horror films.

They wanted to break away from the generic ‘talking heads’ style documentary, which is one reason why they decided to use horror and Western tropes. They wanted to used more cinematic language, using glidecams and slider shots to make it more ominous.
