SOUNDTRACK

We knew we wanted some music to use as our soundtrack in our short film. To do this we first split our narrative into sections and then discussed and wrote down the moods we wanted each of these sections to have. We knew how important the music would be for creating the mood and even interpretation. For some of the parts we had a few different options of moods we could follow, for example, the bath scene could have been sad and depressive, whereas we decided in the end we wanted it to be hard and overwhelming. It was these moods we ended up wanting the girl to be feeling so we used music to reflect that. The after party scene with the boy could have been romantic, but we wanted it to be more rough and therefore a bit more out of control and sinister. If you click on the underlined songs they will take you to a site you can listen to them on. The highlighted ones we chose:

1) Introduction with establishing shots and the girl on the window: chilled, pensive, not sad but not happy

2) Beach and fire scene with friends: chilled, happy, summery, tiny bit sinister

3) Party: rave, crazy, disorientating

4) Sexual Scene: passionate, harsh

5) Bath breakdown: overwhelming and disorientating, loud

6) After breakdown: contented, at peace, sad tone

We understood that it would be difficult to gain copyright access to all the songs that we needed. It also wouldn't be as good if we just used other peoples songs. We prioritised the songs we needed, with The M Machine song for the party scene being the most essential. We decided this because, as it is a dupstep song it will be the hardest to create ourselves. Where as the after breakdown music and beach music could be achieved by recording ourselves playing a few nice chords on the piano and have the same effect and mood. We also wanted to try for copyright for The Black Keys and Fidlar as they were exactly what we wanted, however we would also work on creating similar track using the help of Beth's friends band. Even though we now would not use most of the songs put above I still think they are very important to the production and planning process. Personally, I think it is key that I have a way to put myself in the exact mood of the scene. Listening to this music is exactly how to do it, I can play it on set, while doing posters and editing or when making storyboards and it'll help inspire me and place me more into the scene.
