Films from my Local Area

In the Medway Valley (1935) was a lyrical short film about the River Medway in the 1930s, from the Sussex Downs and Turners Hill where its source is to Aylesford, passing through Maidstone where the school I attend is situated. It looks at the bridges, locks and castles along the way.

Colour in Print (1960) was an idustrial documentary filmed at the Alabastar Passmore Press in Torvil just outside of Maidstone. It shows the three colour letterpress printing process and way most likely used as an internal staff training film, as it comprehensively covers the whole process. It was filmed by a man from the company Brian Passmore whos father, Alfred Ernest created some of the earliest home films that have survived.

Meander in Maidstone (1964) was a atmospheric short film about life in the town if Maidstone, including its winter snows and christmas lights, old buildings and modern developments as well as the River Medway that runs through the town.
