PLANNING

Elements I want to include in my magazine review:

  • Name of the film

  • Images from the film

    • Title image

    • Smaller additional picture

  • Two Articles

    • Main Article

    • Interview with director

  • Text set out in columns

  • Tagline/Summary of film

  • Star rating

  • Highlighted quote

This is a version of the magazine article from in the middle of the design process. All of the features above are there, however there is still much work to be done tweaking it to make it the most aesthetically pleasing. I made small changes such as changing the transparency or making the title bigger. I then came to the problem that the text ran over the center line where the magazine would fold; I needed to change this by moving the text boxes over before I got to my final design.

Image Choice

I knew I wanted to use an image from the film itself to help reinforce synergy between the two products. The title image I chose was perfect for its purpose; I knew this before even looking for a title image. I knew I needed a picture of the actress Beth, but that the photo had to take up the whole background of the article, so it needed enough empty space that articles and other photos could go over the top without obstructing the focal point of the image, Beth. I knew the beach scene was the sequence with the most wide shots and empty space, the rest of our production had mostly close ups or medium shots, this meant an image from the beach scene would be most appropriate, specifically this image. However, because of how far away and wide the shot was it is difficult to see Beth and to recognise her. This meant that I wanted a closer up image of her face so she could be more easily recognised, this also would be more appropriate for the article as the article speaks about Beth and her career. I also liked this photo of Beth as it was striking and colourful and to emphasis this I edited it in photoshop, making it brighter and increasing the contrast, as well as lightening her eyes to make them stand out more. I also edited the title image through photoshop to make it more striking.
