SPRING BREAKERS
I watched Spring Breakers as the themes in it were similar to what we wanted to do. The way the narrative is constantly changing between different things and isn’t in chronological was also good. I think we are going to use something like this. In some places it went to the end of the sequence and then filled in the information in between, I thought this was very effective. For example, we see the girls at a party and then it jumps forward to them in a cop car. Then it slowly fills in the series of events that led to it, keeping the audience in suspense and interested.
There is also a bit in Spring Breakers when the audio of the dialogue in a scene is looped back around as Alien prepares to kill his enemy. The girls have said he is scared and this plays on repeat as if it is haunting him and affecting him, as if he need to prove himself and not wanting to admit he is scared. We could use something like this in ours, a phrase or a conversation that has really effected our protagonist and plagues her through the various things she does, driving her forward.
This is an alternative poster that I found on www.doaly.com for Spring Breakers. I really liked it. The contrast of the innocents the girls look and how corrupt they are in reality is summed up perfectly. On the first glance you just see the lower body and torso of a young girl. When you look closer you can see the outline of a gun that suggests she had a gun laying on her while she tanned. This is summed up by line 'it's always the sweet ones' at the top.
